Thunder/Blazers Recap

An ugly win is still a win.  And that's pretty much what the Thunder got here, with a 87-83 slugfest win over a scrappy Portland team.  Thanks in large part to Mr. Kevin Durant, the Thunder played poorly and still pulled this one out.  KD scored 33 of the teams 87 points, with Russ Westbrook and DeAndre Liggins being the only other Thunder players in double figures.  OKC was without Serge Ibaka and Thabo Sefalosha in this one, both down with injuries.  Serge got hurt in the Laker game (see my notes here) but Thabo's being out was news to me.

The Thunder didn't shoot particularly well as a team, which probably explains the 87 point total performance, with just one of their quarters topping 25+ points.  Their defense was a bit better, holding the Blazers to under 20 points in two quarters, but LaMarcus Aldridge had himself a game much like KD, going for 33 and 11, with 2 blocks, but he was the only Portland starter that shot better than 50% from the field.  This resulted in the Blazers as a team going only 36% from the field (ugh) and about 29% from 3 (double ugh).  The Thunder felt like playing a game of mutually assured destruction though, with Russ going 5-21 and KMart going a miserable 1-8.  Triple ugh.  But...KD's individual brilliance was once again enough to save the day.

Portland's a tough city to play...and was even tougher for the home team Sunday night.  Damian Lillard, having a terrific rookie season otherwise, went an ugly 3-14 (perhaps due in part to Russ's defense on him) and while Nic Batum had 21 and 7, plus hit three 3 pointers, he was still a -7 in plus/minus.  And he and LA were the only Blazers to crack double digit scoring.  Rough night all the way around I guess.

Next up for OKC - the Phoenix Suns at 6pm Pacific.  The Suns are always a tough out on their home floor, and the matchup between Goran Dragic and Westbrook should be a good one.  No word yet on whether or not Ibaka and Thabo will be back tonight, but do like me and keep your fingers crossed.  As always, #ThunderNationRISE
