Thunder/Suns Recap

Its hard to imagine that two guys by themselves could win a basketball game.  I mean...hoops is team sport played by 5 guys, who come together for a common purpose.  But the two dudes you see in the photo above this article did just that very thing on Monday night - won themselves a ball game all by themselves.  And it wasn't even really that close...as OKC picked up a 102-90 victory over the Phoenix Suns.

Before I say or write anything else...I want you to watch this video from Monday nights game below:

Okay now...is it really fair that a guy that's 6'10" can make moves like that?  I mean seriously!  KD again put a 40 piece up on someone (he went for 41 on 50% from the field) and made it look real easy while doing it, including the above referenced ridiculous dunk.  If you're reading this blog, then you know I'm a little bit biased...but I said it here and now - KD is the MVP of the league this year.  Hands down, no arguments or questions about it.  Look back at the Thunders last 3 games...KD tore up the Lakers singled handedly, then basically put the team on his back in Portland to gut out an ugly W, and then tonight...you think the Thunder pull this one out without him in the lineup?  And the Clippers on the same night thump the Grizz without Chris Paul - I don't want to hear any more about how anyone other than KD is the MVP.  Because it's nonsense.

Now, just because you're the MVP of the Association doesn't mean you have to do it all by yourself...in fact its often helpful to have a teammate or two come through in a pinch.  And when your teammate happens to be Russell Westbrook, then you can damn sure bet he's going to come through in a big way.  Well...I guess that depends on what your definition of "big" is...but I would define it as 36 points on 14-24 shooting, 8 boards, 5 dimes, and 2 thefts.  Yeah - KD and Russ combined for 77 of the Thunders 102 points.  While this isn't normally a good thing, tonight it was just flat out special.  When you've got 2 guys like these two guys - anything is possible.  Including a game where two guys pretty much beat a whole other team on their own.

I could run down the adjusted plus/minus of everyone on the squad, or talk about how OKC is 6th in the league in defensive efficiency, and 1st in the league in offensive efficiency, but honestly - that should all take a back seat to the incredible night that two incredibly talented basketball players had.  So I'll just let the highlights of this game speak for themselves.  Next up:  the Denver Nuggets come to OKC to meet the Thunder at their house.  Game time is 5pm Pacific - if you tune in, I'm sure you'll see the #ThunderNationRISE
